hey lovely!! im an ib junior next year and im super nervous yet SUPER excited cause i’ve never been apart of such an exciting curriculum before,,,, how was it for you? and what tips do you have for pre ib students?? love your blog so much🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷

espressogal answered:

hi sweetheart!! ahh thank u so much!!! ib is quite the ride but i do have some advice for pre ib’s based on my experience

ADVICE FOR INCOMING IB STUDENTS

1) time management is KEY

- get started on assignments the DAY it is assigned. trust me, it will do wonders. this doesn’t mean do the whole assignment in one day. when you get assignments like the extended essay or your IA’s you should begin by trying to find out what your research focus is on. get out a blank document and type in whatever you already know should be on it. make bullet points for each argument and add onto it each day. then, before you know it, you already have all your arguments down before anyone has even thought about their research question! and it doesn’t even require hours on end. one hour per day is more than enough to be ahead of the game.

2) make sure your HL courses are courses you like

- don’t take courses your parents want you to or ones that you’re terrible at. your HL courses are 3 semesters worth of information that you will have to study in your may exam in your senior year. make sure it’ll be tolerable

3) make! a! revision! notebook! (or document)

- you will hate having to reread all the notes u took in class during exams. thus, when studying for a test, write down everything you need to know for that test (summarized) and keep that in a revision pile, organized for each subject. you’ll thank yourself later.

4) make friends with your classmates and teachers!

- these are the people you’ll prob be seeing for the next two years!! learn to live with them :)

5) don’t slack off on CAS

- omg u dont even know how big of an issue this is for so many IB’s. CAS is continuous meaning you can’t have any gaps in between for a long period of time. try and join some clubs that don’t take too much of your free time and register that on your managebac the day you join!! do your reflections the day u join!! and get a supervisor signature ASAP. trust me, you will forget if u dont do these asap.

6) try and get comfortable with your school counsellor / psychologist

- stress will inevitably kick in and you don’t want it to take over your life. if things get too overwhelming talk to a teacher or a counsellor and have someone guide you through. ib can get quite hectic and it can be kinda hard to keep up sometimes. but that’s okay! as long as you take care of yourself!!

good luck honey!! you’ll do amazing!! and dont forget to have fun amongst the chaos of the program! you’ll make some great memorable friends and at the end of it all, you won’t even remember the grades you got, but rather the amazing memories and skills you’ve attained. i wish you the best!!

Hi.

I’ve had this blog for years, but only now decided to start using it. I will try to document my journey from the start of second semester of my sophomore year to studying at Cambridge (hopefully). I will try to update once a week at least. Maybe do some 100 days of productivity. Reblog lots of things I found useful. Make a compilation of a few great study tips posts I’ve seen. Possibly also post a poem or an essay. We will see.
